The Ethics Of Academic Integrity - 1149 Words
Compare and Contrast Ethics Research Articles Ethics are the principals that build an individualââ¬â¢s character and integrity. It is the code of conduct that a person lives by; it is the way that a person conducts themselves when no one is around. Stealing, lying, and cheating are wrong, yet every day in the workplace these issues occur. Growing competition lends to the need for people to do what they can to get ahead and stay ahead. Ethics are pushed to the side as people try to gain power or to stay out of trouble, all at the risk of tarnishing their character. This same mindset has spilled over into Academia. A studentââ¬â¢s desire to successfully earn a degree by any means necessary has caused educational institutions to address these ethical issues by setting policies in place to combat academic dishonesty. Defining Academic Integrity Academic integrity is the code of academic conduct that is set forth by educational institutions. It is the catalyst for the mission of most institutions. The expectation is that students will be honest and responsible as it pertains to academia. It defines the academic rigor in research and academic publishing and gives value to the institution (Spain Robes, 2011). Academic integrity also applies to the way that an individual behaves both personally and professionally, and is a true measure to the worth of the degree that is earned. This standard of behavior applies to both students and faculty. Impact of gamma rays on the germination Free Essays
To find out LD50 dose for the seed and urther investigate the influence on germination and seedling parameters. The experimental results revealed that the percentage of germination had decreased after irradiation and the effect become stronger with increase of gamma dose. Parameters such as germination percentage, speed ot germination, mean daily germination, peak value and germination value had significantly decreased with increased irradiation doses. We will write a custom essay sample on Impact of gamma rays on the germination or any similar topic only for you Order Now Similarly seedling parameters viz. , Root length, Shoot length, Vigour index and Root/Shoot length ratio expressed higher reduction at higher doses as compared to non irradiated control. The study clearly indicated ncrease in the deleterious effects of gamma irradiation at regular intervals, with attainment of LD50 at a dose of 1. 50 kGy. Keywords: Gamma irradiation, Groundnut, Seed germination, Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L. ) is popularly known as peanut. It is one of the world ââ¬Ës most popular oil seed crops, cultivated in more than 100 countries of six continents. It is the single largest source of edible oils in India and constitutes roughly about 50 percent of the total oilseeds production. Among the major Groundnut growing states there has been consistent increase in area under cultivation in Andhra Pradesh. The groundnut seed mainly comprised of protein, fat, carbohydrate which make it sensitive to radiation induced stress. Among the environmental stresses, the radiation is the most important factor, which limits production of groundnut. This would result in drastic reduction in crop yield and magnitude of reduction would depend on groundnut varieties. Not only the yield of Groundnut but also the quality of products decreases under radiation stress. The seed stage is a convenient phase in the plantââ¬â¢s life cycle for use in radiological studies to determine relative radio sensitivity of species and the effects of various actors on radio sensitivity. Earlier experiments in this field have indicated that ionizing radiation could cause permanent genetical effects, lethal or beneficial mutations, morphological modifications and other effects in plants. Several factors may be involved in the inhibition of germination and the growth of the plants from seeds following their exposure to high irradiation doses. A number of radiobiological parameters are commonly used in early assessment of effectiveness of radiation. Methods based on physiological changes such as inhibition of seed germination and hoot and root elongation have been reported for detection of irradiated legumes. Therefore, in present study the response of groundnut seed (cv. Narayanââ¬â¢) to gamma radiation stress on germination and seedling parameters of groundnut was investigated compared to non irradiated seed. ASIAN J. EXP. BIOL. SCI. G. Ranga Agricultural University, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad- 500 030 and were compared with the observations made on untreated control. The material for irradiation was placed in an irradiation chamber located in vertical drawer inside the Lead flask. Radiation field was provided by a set of stationary Cobalt60 source placed in a cylindrical cage. The source was doubly encapsulated in corrosion resistant stainless steel pencils and was tested in accordance with international standards. Two access holes of 8 mm diameter were provided of service sleeves for gasses, thermocouple etc. Mechanism for rotating/stirring samples during irradiation is also incorporated. The quantity of absorbed dose (kGy) can be defined as the amount of energy absorbed per unit mass of the matter at the point of interest. The experiment was carried out as per Completely Randomized Design CRD). The irradiated seed along with nonirradiated control were sown in petridishes in the laboratory. Data on germination an d seedling parameters were recorded seven days after sowing under ambient condition. Germination percentage was calculated using the formula as per ISTA [10]. Speed of germination of the given sample was calculated according to the formula given by Maguire [16]. Similarly, other germination parameters viz. , Mean daily germination, Peak value (Edwards [9]) and Germination value (Czebator [7]) were calculated. Seedling parameters like Shoot and root length were measured using ten seedlings ollected at random from each sample on 7th day from the seeds subjected to germination test. The shoot and root length were measured in centimeters (cm) using a scale and root/shoot length ratio was calculated using the estimates of seedling length. Managing Challenges to Growth for Entrepreneur- MyAssignmenthelp
Question: Discuss about theManaging Challenges to Business Growth for an Entrepreneur. Answer: Starting and growing business presents a lot of challenges for the owner of Gilbert Fresh Market, Mr. Gilbert. He had learned that all successful companies faced similar challenges when they were growing. However, there are a few things that set them apart from those companies that failed. This manager appreciates that growth is change, and change is risky. Whenever Gilbert opens a new branch, he ensures none of his stores is weaker than others. Unlike managers who remove their existing staff and shifting them when their organizations reach this stage of growth, he trains his own staff. He believes this is the only way to ensure there is no unbalance in his organization. Another unique thing that Gilbert does is hiring the right people all the time. He understands that the challenges that a company must go through when it is growing require experienced, visionary, and hardworking people. To avoid the risk of failure, he has groomed his children to work in his organization from bottom level and created an atmosphere that enables them to work their way up, acquiring experience in the process. He fosters his own people. By training his own staff and fostering his own people, Gilbert has demonstrated that he has transitioned from a business owner to entrepreneur. According to Grafton, an entrepreneur understands that for a business to grow, the entrepreneur himself must grow fast. When growth begins, the leader quickly learns that he can only do so much and he needs the help of others to meet the needs of customers adequately.[1] To meet these needs, other studies have indicated that the business owner must evolve from being a doer to a manager of employees and then to a manager of managers.[2] Doing this may appear very easy, but Alfredo says that is not the case.[3] He holds that managers often find it difficult to face the fact that they must rely on others to complete certain tasks. However, entrepreneurs go the extra mile and train their employees to be their own managers. After doing this, they can delegate effectively. When Gilbert gets to the point where he is delegating tasks and relying on his employees to drive the business, he must be a leader and coach. Coaching requires that he spends a lot of time getting to know people and understanding their emotions.[4] Gilbert has a good understanding of his children and a few other workers and gives them an opportunity to work their way to the top. By giving them this opportunity, he gives himself the advantage of knowing them and their abilities better. Gilbert also demonstrates that he is an entrepreneur by giving young people opportunity to lead. He believes that people should fail when they are young to develop a high tolerance for failure. Research has shown that entrepreneurs understand that upgrading never ends and growth is a continual process.[5] Failure also young people to learn in the right time that having a smooth-running machine in an elusive dream, so they have good tolerance to failure, take risks, and work hard. By mentoring young people to take over leadership of his business, Gilbert is creating a high-performance family.[6] Through this, he will reduce the amount of time he needs to spend putting out fires and the number of mistakes needing to be corrected every day. Ordinary managers often fail to plan for more growth and put in place better processes.[7] However, Gilbert being an entrepreneur, he is offering the right leadership and his business has great prospects. Isaac Newton Essays (1269 words) - Isaac Newton,
Isaac Newton Isaac Newton was a well-known English scientist. He accomplished a lot during his time and influenced the world a great deal. He is considered to have contributed more to science than any other person. His life can be divided into three periods. The first one was his early childhood, he second was the time of his accomplishments, and the third is his later life. Isaac Newton was born on December 25, 1642 in Woolsthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. His family was poor and his parents farmed for a living. His father died three months before he was born. His mother later remarried a minister and Newton went to stay with his grandmother. He attended a grammar school at the age of eleven, but did not do well. His teachers said that he did not pay attention. His mother then decided to pull him out of school and put him in charge of her properties. Newton decided that he did not want to do this, and, with the help of his uncle, Newton convinced his mother to let him return to school. Stokes, the headmaster of the school, saw that Newton had potential, therefore, he put extra time into tutoring, guiding and mentoring Newton (O'Connor & Robertson 1-2). Newton entered Cambridge College on June 5, 1661. He was older than most of the students there and entered as a sizar (a student who received money for college expenses in exchange for being a servant to other students). He wanted to major in law. At Cambridge he studied the philosophies of Aristotle and many other philosophist. During his third year he learned about the philosophies of Descartes, Gassending, but mostly of Boyle. He also read book about Copernicus and his relation to astronomy as well as Galileo and Kepler. Newton became fascinated by the ideas of these scientists. He began recording his thought in a book, which was called Quaestiones Quaedam Philosophicae. He received his bachelor's degree in April 1665 (O'Connor & Robertson 2-3). Newton made many accomplishments during his lifetime. His major accomplishments in the fields of math, physics, and optics are well known. For his accomplishment in math, he is considered to have invented Calculus. Although his works of Calculus were not published before a man name Leibniz, but Newton is still considered as the inventor of Calculus. Newton discovered the Binomial Theorem, which was used for fractional powers (Weinstein 2). He also developed many analytical ways to solve many problems such as: find areas, tangents, lengths of curves, and the maxima and minima of functions (O'Connor & Robertson 3). As mathematician, Newton and Leibniz invented differential calculus. He also calculated a formula for finding the velocity of sound in a gas, which was later corrected by Laplace (Chew 1). Newton made many contributions to the field of physics. He developed the three laws of motion. The first was the law of inertia. This law stated that objects in motion would continue to move in that direction at a constant velocity unless an outside force acts upon it. His second law stated that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Finally, his third law sate that forces causes masses to accelerate. As the acceleration increases the force increases as well. They are directly proportion to each other. Newton is considered to come up with the theory of universal gravitation. This is not totally true, but he did contribute to it. Newton made a huge impact on theoretical astronomy. He defined the laws of motion and universal gravitation, which he used to predict precisely the motions of stars, and the planets around the sun. Using his discoveries in optics Newton constructed the first reflecting telescope (Chew1). Other accomplishments that Newton made in the physics field was discovering the law about centrifugal force on body that is moving in a circular path. He did not totally understand the idea of circular motion. In 1666 Newton's main idea was that the Earth's gravity influenced the moon, therefore counterbalancing it's centrifugal force. From this and Kelpler's law of planetary motion, Newton came up with the inverse-square law (O'Connor & Robertson 5). Newton made many accomplishments to the physics field. Newton wrote many books during his

Handy Tips on Art Essay Writing Having discovered some key tips for writing an art essay, you will also need to follow the practices utilized in the art discourse. There are some suggestions you may consider when writing an art essay. First of all, the artwork should not be just described, since frequently it is required to compose a comprehensive analysis. One familiar claim educators make is that the students often depict the artwork without taking any point of the argument which they are supposed to make. Thus, you always need to estimate the ultimate goal of writing. Then, decide how to draw the details of the report arranging them to represent both the artwork and analysis itself. In that case, one of the constructions to be used is to create the paper where the original idea or topic sentence is found at the beginning and proved at the end of the work. Accordingly, the starting point of an art essay is the research phase. At that stage, you should gain a perception of the subject and be able to examine the arguments both for and against the point. An essay should start with an opening paragraph with the topic sentence. It is important to ensure that all the details are consistent and chosen with attention. All the statements made in an essay should support the central point you are going to address in a composition. Thus, in the early steps of writing, it is required to create an outline to plan the development of the essay part. Write down all the ideas and data discovered while investigating the topic. At the investigative stage of writing, you also should establish the claims for and against the reasons you intend to explain in the art essay. Thus, you should examine the structure of the paper before writing. For instance, if you want to present a specific art movement from a particular historical period, it is better to apply a chronological format. Nonetheless, if an essay is addressing the graphic elements recognized in a piece of art, you should use the spatial form of writing. Only Reliable Sources to Use in an Art Essay The reference list can include books, articles from scholarly journals, periodical publications, and the internet sources as well only if they are reliable. Nonetheless, the references should be credible and relevant to the topic. Thus, the following part of preparing an art essay is to outline and analyze the information sources. Once the analysis is composed, you must examine each of the applications made and determine if they will justify the thesis statement of the essay. This is an arguable point. To support or oppose a claim, you should use the credible data to strengthen the central claim. When examining a source, you should remember that some works can be biased or untrustworthy. So use your analytical skills to recognize the inappropriateness of different sources according to the following points: Usage of the out-of-date sources, No citations of sources and no references to sources, Usage of sources that arenââ¬â¢t properly formatted, etc. The aforementioned requires analytical knowledge to make the essay more authentic. Remember the bibliography section of your essay should contain a list of the academic works you have examined, used while preparing a composition. A bibliography should be arranged in the alphabetical order at the end of your art essay. The Ultimate Structure of an Art Essay After all the sources have been reviewed, you should define where you stand and, therefore, how to prove your argument. A successful essay writer is one who takes a position that can be supported by the credible sources. Aforementioned involves a broad range of research, which maintains the position the writer has accepted. This position should be presented explicitly and accurately. Hence, you should compose a standpoint. In that case, the most appropriate way to start writing an essay is to state some questions to be examined and answered in the composition. For you to do those mentioned above, it is required to make a comprehensive investigation to know exactly what research questions are relevant for an essay topic. At that stage, the research will take a lot of time and persistence to develop a coherent structure of an art essay that commonly has: Introduction with the thesis statement; Main body of a composition with arguments; Conclusion. The Excellent Essay Introduction Is a Special Tool to Engage the Reader You should begin your own artwork with the clear opening statements to guide the reader through an essay. As was mentioned above, the outline of an art essay is one of the most critical elements as it is the basis of the work. If it is not done, the composition may crumble without making any sense of writing. Once you develop a thesis statement, the outline should be organized to maintain and expand your position. The introduction is the beginning part of the essay. It is usually written alongside the summing-up part. Therefore, once these claims are asserted, it is a time to start working on the body paragraphs and the conclusion. An excellent art essay needs an introduction to catch the readerââ¬â¢s attention immediately. In that case, the essential advice to you is to state your position in the opening part. When the writer reveals the central claim, some supporting sub positions should be shown as well. It is essential to make the introduction precise and with the limited exposition to attract the reader. The opening paragraph must be connected with all the statements given in the essay. Thus, all sections in the art essay are vital. The introduction explains what type of work is going to be performed. The introduction should also give some hints regarding how you are going to tackle a research question. The Well-Developed Main Body Is Formula for Success in Writing You surely know that writing the main body of an art essay is a critical stage of the whole composition. The paragraphs within the body of an art essay should be built-in. Accordingly, the most appropriate way of structuring the body sections is to adjust your leading position with the significant details of the essay topic. You can state it in the first sentence of the first body section or the last sentence of the introduction. The ideas must be organized in the right way: The paragraphs should be formed as an organized system of knowledge; Concepts should support one another in a rational order so that the entire text looks coherent; Each sentence in the sections should support what you have already declared; The main paragraphs should be relevant to a topic and connected properly with some transition words. The Logical Essay Conclusion You Need to Arrive at The ending part of an art essay is the summary section that repeats the central position of the whole composition and some supporting arguments. Note that the conclusion should be short and logical. So consider it as the last opportunity to convince the readers that the data presented in the work is valid and your arguments are reliable. There is a direct connection between every part of your essay. However, the introduction and the conclusion are those parts that play a special role in your essay. The former introduces an essay topic with its narrow context and main focus on essay questions, the latter gives a sense of logical closure of essay writing. Both are aimed at keeping your readersââ¬â¢ interest to plunge into your art essay meaning. Pay attention that a conclusion is a section of the essay where the writer goes beyond any explanation. Youââ¬â¢d rather offer your own judgment that trying to include some new details. Thus, this part of an art essay should be well proofread to avoid repetition of phrases. Any comments you make regarding the work should be based on the examination provided in the body of the composition. In this section, you should explain how and why the essential components and concepts of art employed by the artist formulate meaning. The facts regarding the work should support the discussion of the content and not the reverse cause new questions in the readerââ¬â¢s mind. This includes developing new skills, earning new qualifications and certifications, and sometimes, keeping a shrewd eye on skill sets that are most valuable across the widest swath of jobs. Here are three particularly robust and versatile skills that will render you invaluable to almost any employer.1. Business DevelopmentThis isnââ¬â¢t just for sales positions. At the end of the day, there are aspects of every job that require sales skills. And every business has people in roles that function as a kind of internal customer. Learning how to pitch ideas, appease different team membersââ¬â¢ needs, and communicate effectively will help you build relationships, please the people you work with, and prove that you have what it takes to hold a team or a company together. It also never hurts to learn to sell what you need and want most.2 . Data AnalysisData is everywhere. From small to big to massive. And knowing how to handle it is becoming a necessary skill- and one in higher and higher demand. No matter what your field, or position within your company (HR, communications, accounting, marketing), being able to mine data for useful information and then present that information is key. Youââ¬â¢ll also need to bump up your oral and written communication skills, which will always be a plus. And be sure to stay up on the latest data extraction software platforms and techniques. Do this, and youââ¬â¢ll stay ahead of this burgeoning curve.3. Leadership SkillsNot just ââ¬Å"being a bossâ⬠or ââ¬Å"managing a teamâ⬠or ââ¬Å"training new employees.â⬠Many companies are looking for something a bit more ineffable, and much more useful. Catapult yourself to the top of the leadership line by demonstrating your fluency in collaboration (playing nicely with others and getting real results in the process), decision-making (aka taking the reins and exercising good judgment and control), and mentoring (really nurturing and bringing along younger or more inexperienced colleagues). The more you can prove that youââ¬â¢re an ethical, well-respected, well-liked colleague and/or supervisor, the more a hiring manager or boss will notice and start getting really excited about hiring you- or doing everything they can to keep you on board.Developing these skills is not a simple fix- more like a career-long strategy. But a very shrewd one that will prove to be rewarding, no matter what the outcomes.

Innovative Organisations Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words
Innovative Organisations - Research Paper Example Early computer-aided design (CAD) applications were direct replacements for manual drafting activities in the design process. Computing resources were derived from mainframes. There was little increase in initial drawing production efficiency, but drawing quality and clarity were greatly improved (Golish et al. 2003). The introduction of the remote workstation provided a technology platform to advance the CAE design process. Architect-engineering design services are project driven businesses. The typical project is a custom designed facility to satisfy the specific requirements of a single customer. Revenue is generated on a project-by-project basis (Kerzner 2002). It is estimated that over 35,000 firms are providers of A-E design services (Golish et al. 2003). Increased use of CAE technology will alter key financial measures used in the industry. Fig. 1 shows projected trends in TLM as CAE technology use increases (Schriener 1996). Productivity will increase and cycle time will decrease. Direct hours to produce projects will decrease and overhead costs will increase while overall design cost will decline. This cost allocation trend is consistent with that experienced in the manufacturing sector as computer-aided engineering and production methods evolved (Noori 2001). The objective of A-E design services is to interpret customer requirements for facilities and infrastructure, including performance expectations, cost, and schedule.

Power of Discrimination Exposed in Call It Blindness Essay -- Call It
Power of Discrimination Exposed in Call It Blindness à The fear of the unknown causes people to inflict pain and hatred rather than try to understand.à They discriminate or prejudge others on the basis of their ethnicity, race, sex or handicap.à This treatment often results in victims being ostracized from society.à It is assumed that such hardship can make people bitter and full of resentment.à However, Georgina Kleege disproves this in her essay "Call It Blindness."à She shows that her personal struggle against discrimination has made her better, because it pushes her to open people's narrow-minded views, break down societal stereotypes, and inspire those with similar challenges. à As a handicap, there are extra struggles that Kleege must face while trying to broaden the narrow-mindedness of people in today's society.à When people have a handicap, they are seen as weak and inferior.à The blind must try to escape the negative stereotypes that are often associated with them.à Kleege acknowledges that people believe, "Blind means darkness, dependence, destitution, despair.à Blind means the beggar in the subway station" (395).à She tries to help others understand that her condition is not one of despair but one of hope, asà "blindness does not in itself constitute helplessness.à You will be as resourceful, capable, and intelligent as you ever were" (403).à Kleege tries to make clear to others that her condition is not the end of her life, but the start of one with more difficulty.à There are also stereotypes of uncleanliness and unawareness of those without vision, as well as an idea that the blind are less intelligent.à Ev en though there are many who do fall into the stereotype, there are also in... ...r way. à à à à à à Throughout history, there have been many images of bravery and strength.à However, there is none more admirable than the bravery and strength of people like Georgina Kleege.à They continue to fight, even when their triumphs go unnoticed by most.à As a result, their actions have had a larger impact on society than any famous hero.à With their patience and perseverance, they have helped change and mold society's negative view of the disabled into a positive one.à Without people with perseverance like Kleege, members of today's society would never try to open their eyes and learn to accept and respect those who are different.à à à à Work Cited Kleege, Georgina.à "Call It Blindness."à The Presence of Others.à à 3rd ed. Thingss were different 25 old ages ago. Oil was under $ 30 a barrel ; most growing came from the developed universe ; we were a state at peace. After I came in as CEO, I looked at the universe post-9/11 and realized that over the following 10 or 20 old ages, there merely was non traveling to be much tailwind. It would be a more planetary market, it would be more driven by invention, and a premium would be placed on companies that could bring forth their ain growing. We have to alter the company-to become more innovation driven-in order to cover with this new environment. It ââ¬Ës the right thing for investors. Productivity is still really of import, but if you look back at GE ââ¬Ës concerns over the past decennary or so, those that have been managed for both productiveness and growing have done the best. ââ¬Å" The statement from Jeff Immelt mentioned above gaining controls the really kernel of the altering concern environment that GE has to cover with now and therefore had to reconstitute itself into an organisation which is ready for tomorrow Analyzing GE ââ¬Ës Changing Environment Under Jeff ImmeltIndustry Sector: With the flop of 2001 and the US lag that followed GE was faced with a really slow growing industry sectors as its major concerns like Commercial Aviation and Power equipment were the 1s that had taken the maximal hit from the lag. However, GE ââ¬Ës relentless attempts on increasing productiveness became its Jesus. Besides Immelt ââ¬Ës attempts to hike globalisation and invest in R & A ; D helped GE to research new chances in the emerging markets and be ready to sit any rush in demandNatural Materials Sector: Post 9/11 and Iraq war the petroleum oil monetary values sky-rocketed and the of all time increasing demand from India and China lead to a immense rise in trade good monetary values. All this meant an of all time increasing force per unit area on the company ââ¬Ës profitableness due to input monetary valuesHuman Resources Sector: With a new and restructured company with more than 50 % grosss co ming from outside the United States a new challenge were acquiring a leading squad from these markets. Thus GE has increased the figure of direction alumnuss it plans to engage from Asia every twelvemonthFiscal Resources Sector: Post 9/11 the universe saw a reversal of tendency as the autumn of involvement rates stopped and they started lifting alternatively. However, thanks to immense hard currency flows from operations generated by GE and its AAA evaluation fiscal resources ne'er posed a menace to the companyMarket Sector: Again as more than half the grosss and about the full growing came from developing economic systems GE was faced with a wholly different market sector as GE had to acknowledge the importance of these new markets. In earlier old ages GE had followed a scheme of ââ¬Å" Defeaturization â⬠which meant taking an American merchandise and depriving it down to accommodate an Indian monetary value. However, this mentality is altering to developing a merchandise lan d up in India to accommodate an Indian monetary valueTechnology Sector: Technology is one sector which has more or less stayed invariable over the last few old ages as it has merely increased bit by bit and GE has if anything stayed in front of its clip with a go oning emphasis on leveraging its engineering and procedure excellence for presenting client valueEconomic Conditionss Sector: Last five old ages have witnessed both a lag and roar in the universe economic system with a really slow growing stage in the industrial universe station 9/11 and so a roar lead by China and IndiaGovernment Sector: The authorities sector inside the United States has stayed stable. However, the increasing force per unit area from the universe on the US to subscribe the Kyoto Protocol has meant GE had to switch its focal point on ecological balance by get downing a thrust called ââ¬Å" Ecomagination â⬠Sociocultural Sector: Last five old ages have scene a stabilised sociocultural environment with lone major alteration coming in signifier of altering demographics as the population in most of the underdeveloped universe is ageing and hence are the consumer demandsInternational Sector: As most of the grosss or the company is coming from international markets so is most of the competition. GE is now faced with competition from its European and Asiatic challengers even as it has outsmarted most of its American competitionSTRATEGIES THAT SHAPED GE OVER THE YEARSA Glimpse at the History of the World ââ¬Ës greatest company ââ¬â A pudding stone formed through acquisitions and inventions General Electric Company ( General Electric ) was established in 1892 with the amalgamation of Thomson-Houston Electric and Edison General Electric. Its early merchandises included visible radiation bulbs, motors, wassailers, lifts, and other contraptions. In the undermentioned old ages, General Electric acquired a figure of companies such as Siemens & A ; Halske ââ¬Ës subdivision in Chicago in 1900 and Stanlet Electric Company in 1903. In the undermentioned twelvemonth, the operations of the company were decentralized. It bought common fund jobber GNA in 1993. In the same twelvemonth, GE Investment direction began selling common financess to the populace. GE Capital Services, its subordinate, expanded its lines, purchasing Amex Life Insurance and Life Insurance Company of Virginia in 1995. General Electric ââ¬Ës substructure division acquired Ionics.GE ââ¬Ës Growth Strategy under Jeff ImmeltWhat Immelt inherited from the legendary Jack Welch was a extremely productive company which has grown through a batch of acquisitions of all time since its origin. Immelt recognized that the environment GE operated in has changed dramatically over the old ages and the universe has entered a slow growing stage and merely those companies which can turn on their ain will be valued at a premium. Immelt brought about radical alterations at GE as the older rules of growing were done off with and concern successes were now measured by return on capital alternatively of pure market leading. A important alteration was the extent to which the organisation became externally oriented as Immelt reinstated the station of a Chief Marketing Officer after about three decennaries bespeaking a new market oriented GE. Following major measure taken by Immelt was increasing investings in R & A ; D once more consistent with the company making its ain growing rater so turning by acquisitions. In kernel Immelt kept the values of productiveness and globalisation but added a growing jussive mood to it as in Immelt ââ¬Ës words ââ¬Å" another decennary of 4 % growing would intend that GE would discontinue to be a great company any longer â⬠. What Immelt has done with reshaping the scheme is in kernel a tradition of GE leaders as Immelt himself sums it up by stating ââ¬Å" Most people inside GE learn from the yesteryear but have a healthy discourtesy for history â⬠. The consequence of GE ââ¬Ës alteration in scheme to growing manner has been discussed in item in the subdivision on alteration attempts of Immelt subsequently Consequence of Strategy Change on people of GE Change from Welch ââ¬Ës 6 C ââ¬Ës to Immelt ââ¬Ës Growth Traits Immelt has identified the following as the growing traits for GE leaders as against the 6C ââ¬Ës identified by WelchExternal FocusClear ThinkingImaginationInclusivenessExpertnessWhat this means that the focal point of the company is now on market focal point and edifice new merchandises and work outing jobs through adept sphere cognition. This besides implies that Jack Welch ââ¬Ës doctrine of traveling people from one concern to another in 18 months will give manner to a state of affairs where people would remain in a GE concern for around five old ages on an norm to develop expertness required to present high organic growing.Technical SUB-SYSTEM AT GE ââ¬â Technical LEADERSHIP AND LINKING PROCESS EXCELLENCE TO CUSTOMER VALUETechnical LeadershipMerchandises, services and content represent GE ââ¬Ës value added and are the cardinal to its growing. It invests about $ 14 billion each twelvemonth in this rational foundation for the Company, which includes R & A ; D, content d evelopment and selling. The graduated table of this Investment ââ¬â the deepness and the breadth ââ¬â makes GE unique. GE leverages breadth to take in service engineering. We leverage breadth to take in service engineering. An illustration of this is new service engineering is non-destructive proving. This takes imaging engineering from its health care concern and applies it to energy, rail, air power and oil & A ; gas. For clients, proving substructure for failure could salvage one million millions of dollars each twelvemonth. It uses its technological strength to win. The premium of great engineering is non merely the merchandises it sells today, but besides the big installed base of durable assets where they sell service. Its service concern is profitable and grows rapidly. More significantly, services are aligned to work out client jobs in countries such as fuel efficiency, environmental public presentation and quality. It has a talented group of applied scientists and engineers. The company ââ¬Ës renewed focal point on advanced merchandises gives them a platform for leading in the company.Ass ociating Process Excellence to Customer ValueIn 2005, GE accelerated its advancement to associate internal procedures to the success of clients. It starts by making formal ways to listen to client input in ââ¬Å" dreaming Sessionss â⬠which involves taking alone client groupings and holding them assist form scheme. Next, the company improved its client facing processes utilizing Lean Six Sigma, a procedure for cut downing rhythm clip. Every GE employee wakes up in the forenoon wanting to assist a client. Thin helps to look at procedures from a client point of position and engages the squad to make solutions. In several concerns it is associating Lean straight to growing, through what is called ââ¬Å" Thin Showcases. â⬠The intent of these show windows is non merely to better rhythm clip for the benefit of clients. Rather, it is to be so good that it generates incremental growingâ⬠¦ $ 50 million in each ââ¬Å" show window. â⬠Last, GE is utilizing a simple metri c called Net Promoter Score ( NPS ) to mensurate how clients view GE. NPS creates a position of client trueness. The absolute mark is less of import than the tendency. It learns from both boosters and disparagers. Most significantly, we have been able to tie in NPS betterment with growing. NPS is simple and we can be used across the Company. The ultimate end is to utilize betterments in NPS as a step in how leaders get compensated.Organization STRUCTURE AT GENERAL ELECTRIC AND ITS EVOLUTIONAs is apparent from the construction described above GE follows a really level organisation construction composed which is a mix of divisional, functional and regional constructions. It is phenomenal for an organisation of the size of GE which has over 300,000 employees across the Earth to be so organic and level in its organisation construction. As seen above GE ââ¬Ës construction can be chiefly described as a divisional construction further each division follows a similar two grade constructi on and therefore any thought can make every bit far as the CEO by merely go throughing through 2 degrees above. The extent of GE ââ¬Ës two-dimensionality and broad span of control can be viewed from the fact that the CEO spends every bit much as tierce of his clip on people and takes attention of choosing and reexamining top 600 of the company ââ¬Ës leaders himself. These top 600 leaders so take similar duties for their staff However, GE ââ¬Ës construction was non ever as level. It all started in 1892 when Charles Coffins, so CEO and Chairman of the company created an organisational construction which laid the basicss of Organization Design and lead to the beginning of a new topic in Management which was later followed by all direction establishments and companies. This construction kept on going more and more tall and stiff as the company grew at an tremendous gait and it eventually resulted in a construction where there were six beds of Sector Executives between the concern leaders of each of the GE ââ¬Ës concerns and the CEO. This resulted in a bureaucratic civilization and an organisation where senior status and term of office were valued more than virtue and most of the new thoughts got lost someplace in the bureaucratism or by the clip they reached the relevant determination shapers at that place clip had been by. In 1981 Jack Welch took over as the Chairman and CEO of the company and He abolished all the beds of sector executives that separated the concern leaders from the CEO and created a level organisation which was really receptive of fresh thoughts and was a true meritocracy and the current construction was born. This construction was supported by a really strict and frequent rating system and People Management became one of the primary activities of the CEO himself.Cultural SUB-SYSTEMS AND GROWTH INITIATIVES AT GEThe Cultural and Operating System is GE larning civilization in action. It is a year-around series of intense acquisition Sessionss where Business CEOs, function theoretical accounts and inaugural title-holders from GE every bit good as outside companies, meet and portion rational capital. The cardinal focal point is ever on sharing and seting into action, the best thoughts and patterns from across the company and around the universe. How Does It Work?Meetings take topographic point year-round, in an eternal procedure of enrichment. Learning physiques from old meetings, spread outing the range and increasing the impulse of our company-wide enterprises. Driven by the company ââ¬Ës values ââ¬â trust, informality, simpleness, boundaryless behaviour and the love of alteration ââ¬â the Operating System allows GE concerns to make velocities and public presentation degrees unattainable were they on their ain. What Are The Results? The Operating System translates thoughts into action across three twelve concerns so quickly that all the enterprises have become operational across the company within one month of launch, and have ever produced positive fiscal consequences within their first rhythm. Globalization has been enriched through more than a twelve rhythms, Six Sigma is in its 5th rhythm, Services is in its sixth, and e-Business its 3rd.Five Key Areas to Drive GE Business GrowthGE is committed to accomplishing world-wide leading in each of its concerns. To accomplish that leading, GE ââ¬Ës ongoing concern scheme centres on five cardinal growing enterprises:Technical LeadershipServicessCustomer FocusGrowth PlatformsGlobalizationGE is committed to leading in the ââ¬Å" following coevals â⬠of engineering. It ââ¬Ës well-positioned to drive growing for the hereafter with proficient excellence in each concern by developing a planetary proficient capableness, increasing new merchandise growing, and puting in planetary research. Servicesshave grown from the traditional activities of parts replacing, passing and reconditioning machines to a larger and broader vision. The new vision includes puting in concern and engineering to better the public presentation on its installed base and the manner it really services it. Through higher engineering, it has the ability to travel beyond serving to reengineering the installed base. By making so, it dramatically improved its clients ââ¬Ë competitory places. GE is in the thick of an unbelievable transmutation brought on by the Internet detonation. Its chase of digitisation will quickly alter its traffics with sellers, spouses, and most of all, its clients. Customer Focusis guaranting that everything it does provides value to our clients. It means making a partnership that ââ¬â combined with expertness in fiscal, service and engineering industries ââ¬â maximizes client profitableness and ensures quality. A cardinal GE strength is the ability to gestate the hereafter, place ââ¬Å" unstoppable â⬠tendencies and develop new ways to turn. Growth is the enterprise, the nucleus competence in edifice at GE. Globalizationis non merely endeavoring to turn grosss by selling goods and services in planetary markets. It besides means globalising every activity of the company, including the sourcing of natural stuffs, constituents, and merchandises. Globalization particularly means finding and pulling the limitless pool of rational capital ââ¬â the really best people ââ¬â from all around the Earth.JEFF IMMELT ââ¬ËS STRATEGIC GROWTH IMPERATIVES ââ¬â Drive AND MANAGING CHANGE AT GEWhen Jeff Immelt became CE ââ¬Ës president and CEO in 2001, the organisation already had a robust tool kit in topographic point to undertake concern jobs. Most of its cardinal enterprises have focused on heightening productiveness. The Productivity Tool KitBest Practices Sharing: identifies peculiarly effectual attacks and spreads them across CE ââ¬Ës concernsChange Acceleration Process: equips leaders with a proved method of pull offing alteration and prepares them to win as alteration agentsCroton ville Customer Programs: deploy the resources of GE ââ¬Ës celebrated internal preparation installation for the benefit of clientsMultigenerational Product Development Plan: ensures that new merchandises are non merely optimized for the close term but have the ability to germinate with client demandsProcedure Maping: creates ocular representations of concern procedures to ease understanding and simplificationQuick Market Intelligence: physiques on Wal-M art ââ¬Ës invention of tapping into real-time informations about client and rival behaviour and disseminating that insight quickly throughout the organisationSimplification: thrusts out immaterial costs incurred by overcomplicated procedures and proliferation of options in sourcing and other countriesSix Sigma: employs Motorola- pioneered methods to convey defect degrees below 3.4 defects per million chances. Intensive quality preparation outputs ââ¬Å" green belts ââ¬Ë ââ¬Å" black belts: ââ¬Ë and ââ¬Å" maestro black belts â⬠Work-Out: utilizations cross-functional squads and town hall meetings to happen ways to take unproductive work out of the system, like meetings, studies, and blessing degrees that add no valueHowever, General Electric under the leading of Jeff Immelt is flexing every waking attempt to an brave aim-to grow organically two to three times faster than universe GDP which translates into a growing rate of 8 % + from its bing concerns itself. Immelt attributes this alteration in doctrine to the fact that the universe has changed dramatically post 9/11 forcing up the input monetary values and the economic growing engines have besides shifted towards emerging economic systems like China and India. Prosecuting that end, the company has invented a whole new set of direction methods and hence is altering focal point from productiveness to productiveness with growing.Strong PortfolioGE ââ¬Ës foundation is a set of leading concerns constructed to accomplish long-run marks of more than 10 % one-year net incomes growing and 20 % return on entire capital ( ROTC ) . In 2005, the Company was restructured into six concerns focused on the wide markets served: Infrastructure, Commercial Finance, Consumer Finance, Healthcare, NBC Universal and Industrial. Each concern has graduated table, market leading and superior client offerings. Over the past few old ages, the company has sharply strengthened its portfolio. It had two ends in head: better its industrial growing rate and expand fiscal services returns. Since 2002, it has completed $ 65 billion of acquisitions, and announced or completed about $ 30 billion of divestitures. Its organic growing has expanded to 8 % versus an historical degree of 5 % . At the same clip, its ROE in its fiscal services concerns has increased to 26 % its concerns fit good with the large demographic subjects of its epoch. As a consequence, it is positioned to turn organically at two to three times the planetary gross domestic merchandise ( GDP ) . GE uses its size to execute for investors. Since 1990, GE ââ¬Ës continuing net incomes have grown every twelvemonth but one, and most of these old ages have had double-digit net incomes growing. Its dividend has increased for 30 consecutive old ages, turning 12 % on norm. The undermentioned concerns have been identified as cardinal future growing drivers in a recent GE mentality meeting:Healthcare ITâ⬠¦ Market leadingOil & A ; Gasâ⬠¦ Market Leadershipâ⬠¦ Expanding QuicklyWaterâ⬠¦ Continue to spread out globallySecurity & A ; Feelingâ⬠¦ Continue to spread outâ⬠¦ industry consolidatingLatino Mediaâ⬠¦ grow portion in US & A ; explore planetary chanceCommon Enterprises: Organic GrowthThe 2nd jussive mood is to drive common enterprises across the portfolio to spread out public presentation. The GE squad embraces these enterprises. They measure, learn and drive enterprises until they become portion of the civilization. Its most of import enterprise is to drive 8 % organic gross growing. This was launched in 2004, when it had an historical growing rate of 5 % . The entire continuing gross growing was 11 % in 2005, and organic growing was 8 % . This was about twice its industrial and fiscal equals. Jeff Immelt has come up with a mo del known as ââ¬Å" Execute for Growth â⬠which will steer the concern leaders in all GE concerns to accomplish this brave mark of organically turning the company at 8 % . The model is outlined in the undermentioned subdivisionThe Growth Tool KitA new set of tools has been added to the old kit to assist CE accomplish its ends for top-line growing.Acquisition Integration Framework: lineations a elaborate procedure for guaranting that acquired entities are efficaciously assimilated into GEAt the Customer, for the Customer: brings CE ââ¬Ës internal best patterns, direction tools, and developing plans to clients confronting their ain managerial challengesCECOR Marketing Framework: connects invention and other growing attempts with market chances and client demands by inquiring inquiries to graduate, explore, create, form, and recognize strategic growingCustomer Dreaming Sessions: assemble a group of the most influential and originative people in an industry to visualize its her eafter and provoke the sort of interchange that can animate new programsGrowth Traits and Appraisals: lineation and implement the outlook that GE ââ¬Ës following coevals of leaders will expose five strengths: external focal point, clear thought, imaginativeness, inclusiveness, and sphere expertnessImagination Breakthroughs: focal point top direction ââ¬Ës attending and resources on assuring thoughts from anyplace in the organisationInvention Fundamentalss: Equip directors with four exercisings to prosecute people in invention, and fix them to transform new thoughts into actionInnovation Labs and Tool Kit: support concern scheme, merchandise development, and other cross-functional undertaking squads with a assortment of resources and stuffs relevant to innovation attemptsThin Showcases: demonstrate the power of ââ¬Å" thin â⬠thought by leting people to see how rhythm times were reduced in a nucleus customer- facing concern procedureThin Six Sigma: puts the Six Sigma meth ods and tools in the service of a critical goal-reducing rhythm times in the procedures that chiefly drive client satisfactionNet-Promoter Mark: holds all GE concerns to a new criterion: They must track and better the per centum of clients who would urge GE. The tonss are seen as prima indexs of growing and public presentation ; concern squads apply thin Six Sigma and other tools to analyse tonss and place and implement bettermentsPeoples + CultureGE has ever been seen as an organisation which is a university in itself and this committedness is reflected in the fact that CEO Jeff Immelt spends a s much as tierce of his clip on people and the company spends in surplus of $ 1 billion each twelvemonth on assorted developing plans. GE is committed to learn its leaders new accomplishments that make them modern-day in every epoch. Consistent with our enterprises, it is learning them to be growing leaders. To accomplish consistent growing, every leader in every map must do it their mission . This will necessitate personal intercession with clients and protection of the support of Imagination Breakthroughs. It will necessitate risk-taking based on deep market inherent aptitudes. Jeff Immelt along with other senior leaders studied the properties of companies that had long-run success with organic growing like Dell and Toyota. They found that they had five traits in common:They had external focal point that defined success in market footings. They were clear minds who simplified scheme into specific actions, made determinations and communicated precedences. They had imaginativeness and bravery to take hazards on both people and thoughts. They were energized by inclusiveness and a connexion with people, which builds trueness and committedness. They developed expertness in a map or sphere, utilizing deepness as a beginning of assurance to drive alteration.

Eganââ¬â¢s Helping Model Essay
Preamble I found the focus of this assignment, to identify and critique three underlying assumptions of Eganââ¬â¢s Helping Model, rather vague. Perhaps a lesson articulating assumptions overall and applying this information to the Model would have been very helpful. The Model seems straightforward initially but the application of the sections and stages at this point seem overlapping and confusing. One needs to drill much deeper in order to academically critique the Model. After studying the Model in chapter two, my three underlying assumptions that Egan states to make the Model work is: (i) that a helper does not necessarily need to have a background in the field of psychology nor experience; (ii) helpers know how to place themselves in the speakerââ¬â¢s place by utilizing good empathy and active listening skills thereby creating a warm, comfortable, and safe place for the speaker; (iii) and that the Model is person centered, that a person is capable of solving their own problems successfully. My level of understanding and comprehension of the Model itself is still in the acquiring stage of learning. The actual successful application of the Model is not on my learning radar screen at this moment; therefore, to critique the Model at this point is very challenging indeed. In order to address the requirements of this paper, I will briefly describe the Model, list three assumptions, and finally, elaborate on one critiquing assumption. The thrust of Eganââ¬â¢s model is for a person to be able to efficiently manage and not to solve oneââ¬â¢s difficult and sometimes uncontrollable problems and ultimately realize oneââ¬â¢s full potential. This enables people to become better at helping themselves in their everyday lives, (Egan, 2009, pp. 7, 8). The Model is based on the three stages: explore, understand, and act. The helper should be skilled in the application of all three stages. Furthermore, this Model becomes an exercise of independence and empowermentà as well, consequently the person is central to the process and their needs drive the Model by moving the person towards action which leads to choices. The Model acts as a guide, mapping a journey of self fulfillment and self-control as the person explores options guided by the helper. The helperââ¬â¢s approach is based on genuineness, respect, and empathy and the principles of good and active listening. From my perspective, I feel that Eganââ¬â¢s Model is too simplistic. He makes too many assumptions that it will work, such as: the best person to solve a speakerââ¬â¢s problem is the speaker him/herself; that listeners are experienced in dealing with the diversity of problems that speakers bring to the table; and that all listeners engage the speakers genuinely, respectfully, and with empathy, utilizing good and active listening skills. That is a rather tall order for a listener to have in their ââ¬Å"tool box.â⬠The weakness of the model, in my view, is the leading role of the speaker and the assumed skills of the listener. Both of these assumptions dovetail into each other in terms of task completions and guidance. Of course, we are all masters of our fate; however, some folks canââ¬â¢t handle everyday stress as so aptly described by Shawn in the video. We tend to focus on the negative and we are constantly critiquing ourselves to do better in everything we do. We need down time and more importantly, we have to find the time to celebrate our successes and catch our breath before climbing the next mountain. Having said that, letââ¬â¢s return to the Model and review the speakerââ¬â¢s (the person struggling with problems) role. Naturally the speaker is central, otherwise he/she would not be asking for help, but speaking to a person such as myself may lead to even further problems. The Model breaks the helping process into three sections, each describing a stage of the helping and problem-solving process. Each stage is further divided into three tasks that help define the stage and the process involved. Theoretically, the application of the Model is in sequence; however, in practice I can see the tasks overlapping and then the helping process will move backwards and forward between stages. This will createà chaos if task one requires a successful completion but the helper ignores task two and moves directly to task three. Is there a vertical alignment here? Has something very important been overlooked? Then again, this brings into question the inexperience of the helper; the helper may view the process as too rigid, resulting in frustrating the helper which may result in a poorer outcome. Conversely, there can also be a tendency to rush through each stage of the process rather than develop the relationship at the speakerââ¬â¢s pace. The best person to solve or help the speaker with their problems is not the speaker but a trained counselor who in turn interprets the information provided by the speaker and then prepares a plan. Additionally, new problems can be introduced from under-skilled helpers and these under-skilled helpers may offer poor, inappropriate guidance through the problem-solving stages, In conclusion, I feel that Eganââ¬â¢s Model can be effective but at a lower degree of help. At the same time he incorrectly implies that unskilled individuals can guide a speaker to become more empowered in their everyday lives which is a noble ideal; however, the transition from being controlled by problems to self-control and empowerment is a developing process based on effective guidance/advice as well as time. Eganââ¬â¢s three questions: 1. What is going on? 2. What do I want instead? and 3. How might I get to what I want? seem simplistic in their own merit; however, these three stages are critical to the process and must be administered by skilled helpers. As the course evolves, I may gain confidence in implementing Eganââ¬â¢s listening and helping instrument as I learn more about his Model. I sincerely feel the Model is appropriate and effective under proper conditions, but the underlying assumption is the skill factorâ⬠¦a skilled helper is the key factor for successful helping. Iââ¬â¢ve witnessed too many helpers at a university offering very poor even irrelevant advice to their ââ¬Å"clientsâ⬠. I strongly feel that experience is critical for any helper to offer guidance and advice to a student seeking counsel in course offerings, etc. References 1. Egan, Gerard. Schroeder. Macbeth1 essays
Macbeth1 essays Many critics hold that the imagery in Macbeth is more rich and dramatic than that of any other of Shakespeares plays. Woven throughout the tragedy, are the recurring images of darkness, blood, and sleep. These images aid in portraying the evilness and the moral disintegration of the murdering tyrant Macbeth and his fiend-like queen. The images of darkness and night symbolize evil in both mankind and Macbeth. Instruments of darkness is referred to as the witches, the witches are consequently darkness and the devil. Shakespeare seems to have made the witches purposely ambiguous. On the other hand, their words and appearance suggest they are evil. However, Shakespeare also uses them to symbolize fate. Darkness is often call upon by Lady Macbeth: Come, thick night, and pall thee in the dunnest smoke of hell...(Mac.1.5.48). Lady Macbeth calls on the night to cover her deeds with the thickest smoke of hell, so that heaven would not see the deed and cry out to stop. From the beginning of the second scene until the end of the entire play, Macbeth is a play about blood, symbolic of murder and its consequences. Macbeths encounter with the witness took an evil hold on him. All realization of basic morales such as friendship and family become second to the evil darkness. His first act of blood shed was accomplished Lady Macbeth. She drugged the grooms in the Kings bedchamber, and Macbeth stabs the sleeping Duncan, killing him. Macbeth ordered his friend Banquos death, because of his fear that Banquo had suspicion of his involvement in Duncans murder. The witches prophesy began Macbeths bloody crusade and a second prophesy began the end when, Macbeth encountered an apparition. Be bloody, bold, and resolute! Laugh to scorn the scorn the power of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth. (Mac.5.1.79) ...

Common Plastics We Use Every Single Day
Common Plastics We Use Every Single Day You probably do not realize the impact that the invention of plastic has had in your life. In just 60 short years, plastics popularity has grown considerably. This is largely due to just a few reasons. They can be easily molded into a wide range of products, and they offer benefits that other materials do not. How Many Types of Plastic Are There? You may think that plastic is just plastic, but there are actually about 45 different families of plastics. In addition, each of these families can be made with hundreds of different variations. By changing different molecular factors of the plastic, they can be made with different properties, including flexibility, transparency, durability, and more. Thermoset or Thermoplastics? Plastics can all be separated into two primary categories:Ã thermoset and thermoplastic. Thermoset plastics are those that when cooled and hardened retain their shape and cannot return to original form. Durability is a benefit meaning that they can be used for tires, auto parts, aircraft parts, and more. Thermoplastics are less hard than the thermosets. They can become soft when heated and can return to their original form. They are easily molded to be formed into fibers, packaging, and films. Polyethylene Most household plastic packaging is made from polyethylene. It comes in almost 1,000 different grades. Some of the most common household items are the plastic film, bottles, sandwich bags, and even types of piping. Polyethylene can also be found in some fabrics and in mylar as well. Polystyrene Polystyrene can form a harder, impact-resistant plastic that is used for cabinets, computer monitors, TVs, utensils, and glasses. If it is heated and the air is added to the mixture, it turns into what is called EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) also known by the Dow Chemical tradename, Styrofoam. This is a lightweight rigid foam that is used for insulation and for packaging. Polytetrafluoroethylene or Teflon This type of plastic was developed by DuPont in 1938. The benefits of it are that it is almost frictionless on the surface and it is a stable, strong, and is a heat-resistant type of plastic. It is most commonly used in products like bearings, film, plumbing tape, cookware, and tubing, as well as waterproof coatings and films. Polyvinyl Chloride or PVC This type of plastic is durable, non-corrosive, as well as affordable. This is why it is used for pipes and plumbing. It does have one downfall, however, and that is the fact that a plasticizer has to be added to make it soft and moldable and this substance may leach out of it over a long period of time, which makes it brittle and subject to breaking. Polyvinylidene Chloride or Saran This plastic is recognized by its ability to conform to the shape of a bowl or other item. It is used mainly for films and wraps that need to be impermeable to food odors. Saran wrap is one of the most popular wraps for storing food. Polyethylene LDPE and HDPE Perhaps the most common type of plastic is polyethylene. This plastic can be separated into two different types, including low-density polyethylene and high-density polyethylene. The differences in them make them ideal for different uses. For example, LDPE is soft and flexible, so it is used in garbage bags, films, wraps, bottles, and disposable gloves. HDPE is a harder plastic and is used mainly in containers, but was first introduced in the hula hoop. As you can tell, the world of plastics is quite large, and getting larger with the recycling of plastics. Learning more about the different types of plastic can enable you to see that this invention has had a strong impact on the world at large. From drinking bottles to sandwich bags to pipes to cookware and more, plastic is a big part of your everyday life, no matter what type of life you lead.

Affects of Combat PTSD on Sexual Intimacy Research Paper
Affects of Combat PTSD on Sexual Intimacy - Research Paper Example The ââ¬Å"suffering in silenceâ⬠can never be studied and seen in the limelight until a pure study based on survey and facts is carried out. The main intention of the article is to have a deep insight into the problems many couples have to face because of the physical and emotional injuries of the home coming, apparently safe yet internally and emotionally damaged soldiers. The article will be compare and contrast two main studies in which different cases of à ââ¬Ëposttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) hit soldiersââ¬â¢ are discussed with studied facts and figures; then the results will be deduced based on the contextual analysis of the real time happenings and events. First source The first source is titled as ââ¬Å"Sexual Functioning in War Veterans with Posttraumatic Stress Disorderâ⬠authored by Vesna Anticevic and Dolores Britvic published in August 2008, in Croatian medical journal, which is an open literary journal which invites the medics and health experts from all over the world to write experts reports and articles on diverse health related issues and their solutions. Croatian medical journal is fully indexed and reviewed by CC/CM, Index Medicus/MEDLINE, Biosis, Excerpta Medica and ExtraMED (Hrcak, 2011). The addressed article focuses on studying the posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the war veterans that have come from different war zones. The goal of the study is to find out the ratio of the posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among the soldiers who stay away from their wives for a extended period of time and then return home after suffering many war injuries, emotional damages and brutal live imagery in their experiences in the war field. The method of study was observatory; one in which primarily a group of 101 war veterans with PTSD participated. The other group was 55 control volunteers which were healthy in the perspective of sexual functioning and mental stability receiving outpatient health care in different facultie s. The two groups were studied and observed under different supervisory committees of doctors and the observed results were documented later on (NCBI, 2008). During the study, different health determinants and variables were analyzed in order to deduce the results; for example the rate of masturbation, sexual inter-course, ratio of premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunctional problems, antidepressant intakes, sexual fantasies, sexual activities and mental participation of soldiers and volunteers in sex were analyzed and recorded. Based on close observation and keen analysis of the two groups, the results depicted that war veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder had erectile dysfunction problems along with sexual inactivity and hypoactive sexual desires. On the other hand, these problems were present in a much depleted way in the control group which was of healthy control volunteers. Second Source The second article is titled as ââ¬Å"DoD studies intimacy issues among combat ve tsâ⬠which focuses on the sexual activity problems with the war veterans. The intent of the report is to highlight the fact that the life of the soldiers who have come home safely after serving in the war zone is not always that easy as it might look apparently. The report illustrates the real story of different couples and how they have been facing different problems in bed and intimacy in the post war scenario. Many soldiers
